Editorial standards
What you can expect from every guide on this site.
Official sources first
We check rules against primary sources: state election commissions, secretaries of state, state ethics commissions, the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, the IRS and the FEC. Each article lists the sources it relied on.
General patterns, local confirmation
Election law differs by state, county and city. We explain how things usually work, label state-specific examples, and tell you what to confirm locally. Nothing here is legal advice.
Nonpartisan
We don't endorse candidates, parties or positions, and we write for candidates of every party and none.
Disclosure
Our sister companies CandidateLaunch and MySignPal sell campaign websites and signs. Articles may mention them where they're genuinely relevant, and we always identify them as ours. They never pay for coverage or change what a guide says.
Updates and corrections
Each guide shows when it was last updated. If you find an error, email hello@beginyourcampaign.com with the page address and the official source, and we'll review it promptly.
